A Note on Titles, & Why the Standard Behind "Adviser" vs "Advisor" Matters More Than the Spelling.

David joined the IDA team in 2021 with several years of industry experience. Throughout his career, he has worked primarily as a financial planner with an emphasis on tax planning. David is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) as well as an Enrolled Agent (EA), the highest credential awarded by the IRS. He is also an Accredited Investment Fiduciary which allows him to implement his specialized knowledge in a fiduciary capacity to benefit client’s investment strategies.
David plays an integral role in providing in-depth analysis and construction of comprehensive financial plans. He works with clients in areas of retirement planning, tax planning, estate planning, and investment strategies to ensure optimal strategies are in place to help clients reach their financial goals.
Born and raised in San Diego, David enjoys spending his time with his wife Jessica and their two kids. You may also find him intensely rooting for his favorite basketball team, the Los Angeles Lakers.
David saw firsthand how little financial education most people receive. Schools teach English, Math, Science, and History — but rarely saving, tax planning, or basic financial responsibility. Watching friends and family reach retirement age unprepared convinced him that helping people plan for their future was his calling.
David believes financial freedom isn't given — it's built. Discipline, education, and structure are the foundation, and he works with clients to put those pieces in place so they can move toward real, lasting financial independence.
“We work with David Reyes, and David has just been perfect for us. First and foremost, he listens to our concerns, our goals, and the objectives that we're trying to obtain, and he's put together, in our opinion, a very concrete plan. We were barely making anything at the bank in a money market account; now our finances are growing, and we're able to do all the traveling that we would like to do.”
